It's been a long, long time since I last updated this, but that's because it's been a long, long time since I really did anything. There's good news now, though...

I think I've actually found some people to do this whole band thing with again. Joel on drums and Lori on bass. They're both seriously amazing musicians, which makes me really really happy, and we're all into doing the same kind of stuff for the most part. We practiced twice this weekend, and man... I was floored. Even the song we ad-libbed called "we suck" rocked.

The only thing I'm worried about is that it might not work out schedule-wise. Joel is away every other weekend, and we're all so busy it might not be possible to practice during the week. I guess we'll see.

Other crap that's been going on: I've written a bunch of songs since the last time I updated this news section. Most recently I did "what to say", which is a song I'm not too crazy about. It's the first thing I recorded on my DA-38, though, so in ways I was more focused on experimenting with the features of the recorder than I was on writing the song. (I ended up mixing it down to a 4-track, because that was the only portable recorder I had. Kind of killed the sound quality.) Before that I did "surrender of sense", which I like for its slowness and weird melody. I'm very happy with "nada", "whatever" and "another day, a little dumber" (though the recording quality on "another day..." is pretty crappy). They're some of the very few songs I've written that I can listen to and actually enjoy, though I admit it's partly because I can hear the little changes I want to make to them when it comes time to record them for real.

Also, I think we'll be doing something I've reeeeally wanted to do for a long time.... performing covers! We'll only do it live, and not ultra-ubiquitous crap like The Beatles and what-have-you. Instead: The Wedding Present, Versus, Sebadoh, pedro the lion, Archers of Loaf... crap like that. Stuff I've loved and dreamt about playing for years. I don't even care if it's kind of cheesy or whatever.

So yeah... for anyone who's checking this, assuming everything continues to go smoothly, you'll be hearing from us soon. If you're not already and want to be on our mailing list, sign up. Cool? Cool. Later!
